Chattogram is eagerly awaiting the first visit of Dr. Muhammad Yunus to his home district after he assumed the role of Chief Advisor of the interim government.
Both the general public and local administration, along with relevant agencies, have completed all necessary preparations to welcome him.
Dr. Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to tour his home district on Wednesday (May 14).
His day-long program will commence at the Chattogram Port in the morning. He will then attend the 5th convocation ceremony of Chattogram University, where he began his teaching career in the Economics Department. His journey will conclude with a visit to his ancestral home in Bathua village, Shikarpur Union, Hathazari Upazila.
The district administration has undertaken extensive preparations for the Chief Advisor's visit.
According to the itinerary, in addition to attending the 5th convocation of Chattogram University as the convocation speaker, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus will also visit the historic Jobra village, where he gained fame for his pioneering microcredit concept.
He will also attend a meeting at the NCT-5 premises within Chattogram Port, where he will exchange views with senior officials from the port and shipping sectors, representatives from various port user organizations, and business association leaders.
Senior officials from Chattogram Port have stated that the event will feature a multimedia presentation on existing port operations, performance, future potential, and ongoing and proposed key infrastructure projects, including the Bay Terminal and Matarbari Deep Sea Port.
Following the port visit, Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus will proceed to Chattogram Circuit House, where he will unveil the foundation stone of the Kalurghat Bridge over the Karnaphuli River and review the progress of the Chattogram city's waterlogging problem and the Oxygen-Hathazari road project.
At the Circuit House event, the Chief Advisor will hand over the registered deed of 23 acres of land for the Chattogram Heart Foundation Hospital to the relevant authorities.
In the afternoon, he will depart from the Circuit House for Chattogram University campus. The 5th convocation ceremony will be held at the central playground of Chattogram University.
Approximately 22,600 students from the 2011 to 2023 academic sessions will receive their certificates at the convocation. Additionally, 22 individuals from the 2015-2025 period will be awarded PhD degrees.
Chattogram University authorities will confer a D.Litt. degree upon Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus for his outstanding contributions to poverty alleviation through microcredit and the establishment of peace worldwide.
Regarding the preparations, Chattogram University Registrar Professor Saiful Islam said, "Under the leadership and supervision of the Vice-Chancellor, we have almost completed all preparations to make the convocation ceremony a success. This convocation will be the largest in the history of any higher education institution in the country, as approximately one lakh people are expected to gather on campus to attend this grand event."
