The Election Commission (EC) will hold its seventh commission meeting today (June 19) to address the redrawing of parliamentary constituency boundaries for the national parliamentary elections.
The commission will also convene a meeting to discuss the code of conduct for political parties and candidates in the national parliamentary elections.
The meeting will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday at the Election Building in Agargaon, Dhaka, presided over by Chief Election Commissioner A. M. M. Nasir Uddin in his meeting room.
Md. Shoriful Alam, Director (Public Relations) for the Election Commission, confirmed that "the seventh commission meeting will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, presided over by the Chief Election Commissioner."
The agenda for the meeting includes discussions on the Political Party and Candidate Code of Conduct, 2025, and matters related to the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies in the National Parliament.
Previously, on May 6, the Advisory Council, headed by Interim Government Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, approved amendments to the law concerning the redrawing of boundaries for various constituencies of the National Parliament.
Following this, Law Advisor Asif Nazrul stated that "during the previous fascist government, these delimitations were done as they wished.
There are complaints about these from various political parties. Now, due to an interpretational error in our existing law regarding boundary delimitation, the Election Commission was unable to work on this.
The Election Commission proposed this law. We have now made this amendment.
Now, the Election Commission can begin its constitutional duty regarding boundary redrawing immediately after this ordinance is gazetted, within two to four days if they wish."
