Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Begum Khaleda Zia, will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with her family members in London this year after a gap of 10 years. She arrived in London in January for medical treatment. Here, she will celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr with her elder son and acting BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, daughter-in-law, younger son Arafat Rahman Koko's wife, and three granddaughters.
Khaleda Zia last came to London for treatment in 2017. At that time, she stayed at Tarique Rahman's residence for three months and celebrated Eid-ul-Azha with her family. Since then, she has been unable to celebrate Eid with her family due to her prolonged stay in prison.
BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, "Eid means celebrating with family. This has not happened due to the Awami League government. This time, the Zia family will celebrate Eid together, which is a matter of joy for the people of the country and BNP activists."
Party leaders informed that Khaleda Zia has expressed her desire to return to Bangladesh after Eid.
The BNP Chairperson came to London in January for advanced medical treatment. She was admitted to The London Clinic hospital in London from January 8 to 24. Since then, she has been receiving treatment at Tarique Rahman's residence.
After returning home, Khaleda Zia has not needed to be taken to the hospital in the last two months. If any tests are required, doctors and specialists from The Clinic are visiting her home to check her health.
Begum Khaleda Zia's personal physician, Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain, told reporters that her physical condition is improving compared to before, which is encouraging news for Khaleda Zia's family and supporters.
In response to a question about when Khaleda Zia might return to the country, Zahid Hossain said that she may return to the country any day in April after Eid, based on the advice of the medical team formed for her treatment. However, the entire matter depends on the approval of the medical team. He also mentioned that Tarique Rahman will also return to the country soon.
