The treatment facilities in private hospitals, clinics and private chambers of physicians in Chattogram were declared closed for an indefinite period following mobile court drive in three hospitals including Max hospital.
Owners of private medical service providing association declared the programs after an emergency meeting held at the BMA Bhaban in Chattogram on Sunday.
Dr. Liakat Ali, general secretary of private medical service providing association delivered the information. As part of their programs pathological labs and diagnostic centers also will remain closed.
Dr. Liakat Ali said, the decision came in protesting the drive of Rapid Action Battalion mobile court in different private hospitals including Max hospital. But he requested the physicians to provide emergency medical service in government hospitals.
President of Chattogram district unit of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Mujibul Haque Khan expressed solidarity with the decision of private hospital owners association.
Earlier, the drives were conducted at a time at Max hospital at Mehedibag area, at Metropolitan hospital at OR Nizam road and at CSCR hospital at Probortok intersection.
RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam led the drive at Max hospital. At that time Dr. Dewan Mahmud Mehedi Hasan was present there as a representative of Health Directorate.
Sarwar Alam said, in Max hospital one certain person was collecting samples, another was examining and analysis was made in another place. We are not confirmed whether the analysis was done at all.
He also said, HSC level work force is working in the biochemistry laboratory. But minimum graduate level or special qualified work force should be engaged there. To run a hospital there should be facilities of own sample examination which they have not.
On June 28, the two and half year old child Raifa was admitted in the city’s Max hospital with complains of throat pain. She was daughter of the daily Samokal senior reporter Rubel Khan. Raifa died on the following day.
There was allegation that Raifa died due to negligence of on duty physicians and nurses. The journalist organization of Chattogram demanded punishment of the responsible persons as they claimed that Raifa was killed.
Later Health Directorate formed a committee to investigate the matter. As well as a three member committee led by Civil Surgeon also investigated the matter. On Thursday night the committee led by the Civil Surgeon submitted the report. The report said, Raifa died due to negligence of physicians and Max hospital authority.
It also recommended punishment for three physicians.
In the investigation report of the committee led by Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr. Azizur Rahman Siddiqui, it was said that the allegation that Raifa’s parents mentioned against the physicians and hospital authority was true.
It also said, after Raifa’s admission the treatment and medication process was performed accordingly but when she affected with convulsion, inexperience and alck of sincerity by the on duty physicians were observed. They had not the efficiency and knowledge to face the complex situation.
