Palak hints to reduce internet price
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak said internet prices will be reduced in this year.
He said this in a post on his verified Facebook page on Monday morning.
In his status, Palak wrote, “A few days ago, VAT on internet services were reduced to 5% from 15%. VAT reduction on ITC, IIG and NTTN by 5% will reduce the cost of internet services.”
Thanking Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Palak also wrote, "Thank you, honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, thanks to Mr. Sajeeb Wajed Joy, honorable advisor, architect of Digital Bangladesh, for utilising the power of youth, another step towards building a prosperous Bangladesh.”

Two Asteroids to Safely Pass Earth Today, NASA Confirms
NASA has confirmed that two massive asteroids, 2024 XY5 and 2024 XB6, will safely pass by Earth today, December 16th, posing no imminent threat. These close encounters underscore the importance of monitoring asteroids to understand their origins and potential impact on our planet.
Asteroid 2024 XY5
The larger of the two, 2024 XY5, measures 71 feet across and will make its closest approach at 12:26 AM IST. Traveling at 10,805 miles per hour, it will pass Earth at a distance of approximately 2,180,000 miles—16 times farther than the Moon. Scientists have confirmed it poses no danger.
Asteroid 2024 XB6
Slightly smaller, asteroid 2024 XB6 is 56 feet in diameter and traveling at a remarkable speed of 14,780 miles per hour. It will pass Earth at a safe distance of about 4,150,000 miles.
Asteroids like these are remnants of the early solar system, formed 4.6 billion years ago. By studying them, scientists can uncover vital clues about the formation of Earth and the history of the universe. Events such as the asteroid impact that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs highlight the importance of tracking these celestial objects.
Mirror Bacteria: A Synthetic Lifeform Looming as a Threat to Life on Earth
Scientists have raised alarms about ‘Mirror Bacteria,’ a synthetic life form being developed in laboratories. These bacteria are created as mirror replicas of natural biological molecules, such as DNA, using advanced synthetic biology techniques. While the concept may revolutionize science, experts warn that it could pose catastrophic risks to global ecosystems, plants, animals, and humans.
Mirror Bacteria, still in development, are expected to take at least a decade to fully materialize. However, recent studies published in the Science Journal indicate significant progress has already been made. A team of 38 Nobel laureates and scientists is calling for the immediate suspension of this research due to its potential to bypass immune defenses. Unlike naturally evolved organisms, living beings may not recognize or defend against these artificial entities, which could spread unchecked.
Vaughn Cooper from the University of Pittsburgh cautions, “Mirror life has never existed before, and it could disrupt all biological systems.” Similarly, Nobel laureate Gregory Winter from Cambridge University highlights that living organisms, including humans, lack natural immunity against Mirror Bacteria, making them defenseless in the event of an outbreak.
If released accidentally, Mirror Bacteria could trigger fatal infections, acting as invasive species across ecosystems. Scientists fear that attempts to combat these bacteria with antibodies could prove futile, leading to widespread and uncontrollable infections. Plants, animals, and even human populations would face devastating consequences.
The development of Mirror Bacteria raises ethical and safety concerns in synthetic biology, demanding careful consideration and global regulation to prevent irreversible damage to life on Earth.
