Cyclone Remal: Damage minimized due to government action

Cyclone Remal hit the mainland in the coastal region around 9 pm on Sunday. At that time there was a tidal flow in the rivers adjacent to the Sundarbans. Due to which the water development board embankment was not damaged too much. However, the people of the flooded areas are suffering. Even before the onset of the cyclone, the shelters, volunteers were prepare because all the concerned ministries took a cautious stance. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina kept the entire situation under constant monitoring. It was announced that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit the affected areas when Cyclone Remal turned into a depression on Monday.

State Minister for Disaster Managemen Muhibbur Rahman said that the government was fully prepared to deal with Cyclone Remal. Necessary food was delivered to the shelters before the strike. We were able to evacuate all the people from the risk areas to safe places within the stipulated time.

He said, we have been able to move all the military and civilian vehicles to a safe place in preparation for the disaster. Our medical team ready. All necessary forces, including military and naval forces, were kept ready.

Several initiatives have caught the attention of this disaster. One of them is various hotlines. The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has issued a circular with a set of instructions to deal with severe cyclone Remal. In a circular on Sunday (May 26), they informed the officials and employees of the distribution company as well as the general public about what to do to deal with Remal.
