11 people died in 6 districts of the country due to lightning. These lightning occurred at different times of the day on Friday (June 7). Among them, three died in Naogaon, three in Chapainawabganj, two in Natore, one in Thakurgaon, one in Dinajpur, one in Sandwip.
Naogaon: Three people, including two farmers and a woman, died in Manda and Patnitala upazila of Naogaon. The accident occurred in the afternoon due to lightning. Apart from this, two others were injured in the lightning strike in Badalgachi.
The deceased are Shamsul Alam (34) son of Faimuddin Mondol at Bholam village of Manda upazila and Khademul Islam (50) son of Bisha Mondol at Nagargola village of Patnitala upazila and Abdul Hamid's wife Monika (35) of Gahan village.
The injured are Abul Hossain Fakir (55) son of Abir Uddin Fakir and Abdul Khalek Fakir (35) son of Amin Ali Fakir of Gabna village in Badalgachi.
Faimuddin, the father of the deceased, said that his son was injured by lightning while working on paddy field near the house on Friday afternoon. He was immediately rescued and taken to Manda Upazila Health Complex. He died on the way to the hospital.
OC Mozaffar Hossain of Patnitala police station confirmed the truth of the incident and said that farmer Khademul Islam was carrying paddy from the field in the rain on Friday afternoon and died due to lightning.
Elsewhere housewife Monika was killed by lightning while picking mangoes in front of her house. When their relatives rescued them and took them to the hospital, the doctor on duty declared them dead.
Locals said that the two injured persons were going to the field for work in Badalgachi around 3 pm. They took shelter under a tree when it started raining suddenly. In such a situation, they were seriously injured when a sudden lightning strike accompanied by rain and storm. The injured were rescued and admitted to Naogaon Medical College Hospital. They are under treatment there.
Police officials have confirmed that three death cases have been filed and the bodies have been handed over to the families.
Chapainawabganj: Three people died due to lightning in Shibganj and Bholahat of Chapainawabganj. The casualty occurred when lightning struck between 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. during a storm.
It is known that two children died in Shibganj upazila and one died in Bholahat.
Shibganj police station officer-in-charge (OC) Sajjad Hossain confirmed the truth of the matter.
He said that Bobby Bhakat (32), wife of Subhas Bhakat of Alidanga area of Shibganj Municipality while picking mangoes and Kabita Khatun (8), daughter of Ershad Ali of Dokkhhin Paka Nishipara of Paka Union of Shibganj Upazila, died due to lightning while fetching water from the tubewell.
Suman Kumar, OC of Bholahat police station said, Amena Khatun (10), daughter of Islam Ali of Andipur of Bholahat upazila, was seriously injured by lightning while picking mangoes in the mango garden near the house.
Natore: Two people were killed by lightning in Gurudaspur and Naldanga upazila of Natore. This incident happened around 2 pm.
The deceased are Abera Begum (40), wife of Saddak Ali of Anandanagar village of Gurudaspur upazila and Kamrul Islam (30), son of Lutfar Ali of Komarpur Shah para of Pirgacha of Naldanga upazila.
Gurudaspur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ujjal Hossain said that in the afternoon Abera Begum went to the field to fetch ducks during the rain. At that time she was injured by lightning. Locals rescued her and took her to Gurudaspur Health Complex where doctors declared her dead.
Officer-in-charge of Naldanga police station of Natore district, OC Monowaruzzaman said that Kamrul Islam was hunting fish by throwing a net in Barnai river in Pirgacha Shah Para area. At that time, Kamrul Islam died on the spot due to lightning.
Thakurgaon: A woman named Lipi Akhtar died due to lightning in Pirganj of Thakurgaon. The incident took place in Ranshia village of the upazila in the afternoon.
Lipi is the wife of Firoz Zaman of Ranshia village.
Ziaur Rahman, Chairman of Jabarhat Union, said that seeing the rain coming in the afternoon, Lipi went to pick the corn from plants and left them dry near Aktar's house. At this time, lightning occurred. She died on the spot.
Pirganj police station OC Khairul Alam confirmed the truth of the incident.
He said that the death of a woman due to lightning has been reported. Police visited the spot.
Chattogram: Sandwip of Chattogram was struck by lightning. A madrasa student named Rafi (14) has died.
He died due to lightning on Friday (June 7) at 11:30 pm.
Rafi is the Son of Jamaluddin at Gakua Ward No. 3 of Sandwip.
Locals said that Rafi was playing football in the field with other boys when the lightning occurs.
UP member Sohel of Gachua Union confirmed the fact of the incident.
He said that the deceased Rafi was a student of the local Khan Saheb Noorani Hafezia Madrasah's Hifzul Quran department. This incident has cast a shadow of mourning on the area.
Dinajpur: A college student named Jewel died due to lightning in Nawabganj of Dinajpur. This incident took place in the afternoon in Lalghat area of Damail Sarkarpara village of Kushdah union of Nawabganj upazila.
Deceased Jewel Mia (19) is the son of Golzar Hossain. He was a first year HSC student of the local Aftabganj Government College.
Inspector Sirajul Haque, in-charge of Nawabganj's Aftabganj Police Investigation Center confirmed the truth of the matter on Friday. Jewel let rice and corn to dry on the road. When the sky is cloudy, Jewel loses consciousness in a sudden lightning strike while lifting these. Later Jewel Mia died on the way to Fulbari Upazila Health Complex.
