Fate of 1 Million Students to be Decided on Tuesday

The application process for admission from grades 1 to 9 in government and private schools has already concluded. The stage is set for determining students' fate through a lottery. If all goes as planned, this lottery will take place on Tuesday (December 17) at 10 am at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka. This process will determine the fate of nearly 1 million students who applied.

This information was shared in a letter from the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) on Thursday (December 12).

The letter stated that after completing the digital lottery process, institution heads, guardians, and students can access the results by logging into the designated link using their provided ID and password to download the results.

The letter further mentioned that upon downloading the results, institution heads must immediately email the results to the respective district and upazila admission committee chairs and inform the DSHE.

According to sources, Professor Dr Md Aminul Islam, Special Assistant to the Ministry of Education (with the rank of State Minister), will attend the lottery event as the Chief Guest.

Additionally, Siddique Zobair, Senior Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, and Dr Kh M Kabirul Islam, Secretary of the Technical and Madrasah Division, will be present as special guests.

The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) reports that the application process for admission to grades 1 to 9 in government and private schools began on November 12 and ended on November 30. Over these 18 days, a total of 983,539 applications were submitted, including 635,072 for government schools and 348,467 for private schools.

Now, students will be selected from the applicants through a digital lottery. After the lottery, the admission process will commence.

Regarding this, Mohammad Aziz Uddin, Deputy Director of the Secondary Wing of DSHE and Member Secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan Admission Committee, said on Thursday (December 12) that after the lottery process concludes, an SMS will be sent to the mobile numbers used by students during the application process.

He added that guardians can then log in to the designated website (https://gsa.teletalk.com.bd/) using their login ID and password to download and print the lottery results. Similarly, headteachers can also log in with their credentials to download and print the results for their respective schools.
