The Election Commission (EC) will begin a door-to-door voter list update campaign starting January 20, 2025.

This was confirmed by the EC's Additional Secretary, K.M. Ali Newaz on Monday (December 30).

"We are hopeful that by the second half of January 2025, we can begin the door-to-door voter list update campaign," said Ali Newaz. "We have already completed our preparations. By January 5, we aim to complete the training program for trainers. These trainers will, in turn, train the field personnel who will visit homes to collect information."

The Additional Secretary also mentioned that a draft voter list will be published on January 2. "We will make the draft voter list open to everyone. Citizens will have the opportunity to review it. If anyone is left out, there will be a process to address claims and objections. After resolving these issues, the final voter list will be published on March 2. This is an annual task we undertake. This update will serve as the voter list for 2024 and 2025," he added.

He further stated, "We will not only collect data for 2025 but also gather information one year in advance. This means we will include details of those who will turn 18 by January 1, 2026. They will be added to the 2026 voter list but will not be eligible to vote in any elections held in 2025."

It is worth noting that the last door-to-door voter list update was conducted in 2022. At that time, data for 2023, 2024, and 2025 were collected together. Those who turned 18 in 2023 and 2024 have already been included in the list. According to the latest update, there are currently 121,850,160 voters in the country.
