Oikyafront unveils 14-point election manifesto

Jatiya Oikyafront, the main opposition alliance, has revealed its 14-point election manifesto with various promises.

Dr Kamal Hossain, top leader of the alliance and also president of Gono Forum, made the disclosure of the election manifesto at a city hotel on Monday.

In its manifesto, the Jatiya Oikyafront said that the following promises will be implemented if it comes to power after winning the December 30 general election.

1. Political unity will be built removing the politics of vengeance.
2. Freedom of speech and citizens' safety will be ensured.
3. Balance between the power of Prime Minister and the President will be taken.
4. The provision of election-time government will be made.
5. None will be allowed to do job as Prime Minister for more than two consecutive terms.
6. Digital Security Act will be scraped.
7. In the first year, the prices of electricity and gas will not be increased.
8. Expatriates' franchise will be ensured.
9. Healthcare card will be provided to all citizens.
10. There will be no quotas other than the disadvantaged population and disabled people in government jobs.
11. There will be no age limit for access to government jobs except those of police and military forces.
12. Administrative reforms and decentralization will be done.
13. The trial of the war criminals will continue.
14. Women's safety and empowerment will be ensured.

Oikyafront leader Dr Kamal Hossain, its spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, ASM Abdur Rob, Bangabir Kader Siddiqui, Jafarullah Chowdhury, Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Dr. Nurul Amin Bepari were present, among others, in the programme.

BNP, Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikya Prokriya, ASM Abdur Rob’s Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, and Mahmudur Rahman Manna’s Nagorik Oikya formed the Jatiya Oikyafront on October 13 ahead of the national polls slated for December 30.
