United States President Donald J. Trump has formally congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on his historic election victory, expressing a strong desire to bolster bilateral ties through enhanced cooperation in trade, defense and regional stability.
In a letter dispatched from the White House dated on Wednesday, the US President extended his best wishes for a successful term, noting the significance of the partnership between the two nations.
“On behalf of the American people, I congratulate you on your historic election and wish you a successful term as Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh,” President Trump wrote.
He emphasized that the relationship is built on mutual respect and a shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific where sovereign nations can thrive.
The correspondence placed a heavy emphasis on economic and military synergy. Regarding trade, the President noted, “As you begin your term, I hope you will help me maintain the tremendous momentum in our trade relationship through the implementation of our Agreement on Reciprocal Trade, which benefits farmers and workers in both of our countries.”
Turning to security cooperation, Trump urged the completion of bilateral defense frameworks to modernize Bangladesh's capabilities.
“I also hope you will take decisive action to complete the routine defense agreements that would finally give your military access to high-end, American-made equipment – the best in the world!” the letter stated.
President Trump concluded by expressing his full confidence in U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent Christensen, and his optimism for a more prosperous future.
“I look forward to working with you to make the relationship between the United States and Bangladesh stronger than ever before,” he wrote, ending the message with, “Good luck to you in the days ahead!”
