RAB Implements 'Foolproof' Nationwide Security for Int'l Mother Language Day

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has launched a comprehensive, nationwide security operation to ensure the peaceful observance of Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day. 

The specialized force began its deployment on Friday, with measures set to remain in effect through February 22 to safeguard the 74th anniversary of the Language Movement.

During a briefing at the Central Shaheed Minar on the Dhaka University campus, RAB Director General (DG) AKM Shahidur Rahman confirmed that all necessary precautions have been taken to prevent untoward incidents. 

"RAB has taken all necessary measures to maintain overall law and order across the country, especially centering the Central Shaheed Minar. We are fully prepared to deal with any emerging situation," the DG stated, while clarifying that there are currently no specific security threats associated with the event.

The security strategy involves a multi-layered approach, particularly in the capital where the President and Prime Minister will pay their respects. 

RAB has established observation posts, watchtowers, and check posts in coordination with other law enforcement agencies. 

The inner and outer perimeters of the Shaheed Minar are now under strict video surveillance via IP and CCTV cameras, monitored by dedicated control rooms. 

Furthermore, specialized units, including the Bomb Disposal Unit and Dog Squad, are conducting sweeps of the premises, while the RAB Special Force remains on standby 24/7.

The DG emphasized that these heightened measures are not limited to Dhaka. Security has been bolstered at Shaheed Minars across all metropolitan areas, divisional cities, districts, and upazilas. 

Plainclothes officers and intelligence units are also active to prevent members of banned organizations from instigating chaos during the commemorative programs. 

"All battalions will ensure security in coordination with local public representatives and other law enforcement agencies. The control room at RAB Headquarters will monitor and coordinate security arrangements nationwide," the DG added.

Concluding his briefing, the RAB chief urged the public to cooperate with security personnel to maintain the dignity of the occasion. 

He requested that citizens "immediately inform the nearest patrol in-charge or the responsible RAB battalion commander" if any suspicious activity is observed, reiterating the force's commitment to ensuring a peaceful and solemn observance of the historic day.
