PM Tarique Rahman Hosts Grand Eid Reception, Offers Ziarat at Parents’ Graves

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman marked a significant Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday through a series of high-profile state receptions followed by a deeply personal visit to the graves of his parents, the late President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

The day’s official proceedings began at the State Guest House Jamuna, where the Premier hosted an expansive Eid exchange program. 

Following his morning prayers at the National Eidgah, the Prime Minister first received members of the foreign diplomatic corps, followed by a wide array of attendees including Cabinet members, Parliamentarians, distinguished academicians, and senior civil servants.

The reception also saw a large gathering of artists, writers, members of the Ulema and Mashaikh, and citizens from all walks of life, symbolizing a return to traditional festive diplomacy.

Following the public exchange of pleasantries, the Prime Minister transitioned to a private family observance. 

Accompanied by his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and daughter, Barrister Zaima Rahman, as well as the family of his late brother Arafat Rahman Koko—Syeda Sharmila Rahman and daughters Zahia and Zafia Rahman—the Premier traveled to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

At the gravesites of his parents, the Prime Minister performed ziarat, reciting the fateha and offering special prayers seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia. 

The moment carried significant emotional weight, marking one of the first times the family has gathered at the site since the Prime Minister's return to the country.

In his capacity as the Chairman of the BNP, Tarique Rahman then joined senior party leadership to place floral wreaths at the graves. 

Prominent figures in attendance included BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Nazrul Islam Khan and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, and several other high-ranking party officials and advisers.

According to Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, the Prime Minister concluded the day's public and commemorative activities by returning to his Gulshan residence with his family.
