The health of Mirza Abbas, a BNP Standing Committee member and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister, is showing signs of improvement at Singapore General Hospital.
Social Welfare Minister Prof. Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain confirmed the positive development on Monday, noting that while recovery from brain-related complications takes time, various medical parameters are now moving in the right direction.
Mirza Abbas was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on March 15 following a complex four-hour brain surgery at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on March 13.
He had initially lost consciousness during Iftar on March 11, leading to his emergency hospitalization.
Dr. Zahid, who is also a fellow member of the BNP Standing Committee, stated that he has been in direct contact with the attending physicians in Singapore and called upon the public to pray for a steady recovery.
In a further encouraging sign, personal assistant Mizanur Rahman Sohel reported that doctors assisted the veteran politician in sitting up in a chair for the first time Monday morning.
According to Sohel, Abbas is gradually regaining his ability to speak and remains under close observation.
His wife, Afroza Abbas, and son, Yasir Abbas, are currently by his side in Singapore as he continues his post-operative rehabilitation.
