US Grants USD 235,000 for Restoration of Mughal-Era Musa Khan Mosque at DU

The United States has announced a USD 2,35,000 grant dedicated to the restoration of the historic Mughal-era Musa Khan Mosque, located on the Dhaka University campus.

US Ambassador Brent T. Christensen officially announced the funding on Tuesday during a program at the university. 

The grant is being provided under the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), a flagship program aimed at protecting significant cultural sites worldwide.

This latest contribution brings the total US investment in Bangladeshi cultural preservation to over USD1 million across 13 different projects over the last 25 years. 

According to a statement from the US Embassy in Dhaka, this ongoing support reflects the deep and longstanding partnership between the two nations in safeguarding shared history.

The restoration project will be carried out in partnership with Bangladesh’s Department of Archaeology. 

Beyond the physical repair of the mosque’s iconic Islamic architectural features, the initiative includes the establishment of a permanent digital archive. 

Furthermore, the project aims to provide specialized training for young local architects, equipping them with the technical skills necessary to preserve Bangladesh’s rich cultural heritage for future generations.
