PM to Support Families of Keraniganj Fire Victims, Search Operations Continue

Search and rescue operations have intensified at the site of a devastating gas-lighter factory fire in the Kadamtali Gol Chattar area, where the death toll has officially risen to six. 

As Fire Service personnel and volunteers continue to sift through the charred remains of the unstable tin-shed structure, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced that the government will take full responsibility for the affected families.

The Prime Minister’s commitment was conveyed by Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain during a visit to the scene. 

The Minister confirmed that the Ministry of Labour and Employment will provide BDT 200,000 in immediate financial assistance to the families of each deceased victim. 

Furthermore, the government is overseeing specialized medical care for survivors, including those currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

"The factory owner and all those found responsible for this tragedy will face strict legal action," Minister Husain stated. 

He also emphasized that he would brief the Prime Minister on the urgent necessity of relocating hazardous factories away from densely populated residential zones to prevent future disasters.

The blaze originally broke out at approximately 1:13 pm on Saturday, requiring a frantic hour-long operation by seven firefighting units to bring the flames under control. 

Since then, recovery teams have been using specialized equipment to navigate the wreckage. 

While six bodies have been recovered, at least two survivors were pulled from the debris and rushed to nearby hospitals; their current medical conditions remain undisclosed.

To ensure accountability, a five-member probe committee has been formed and has already begun preliminary investigations into potential safety lapses and regulatory violations. 

Authorities have cordoned off the Kadamtali Gol Chattar zone, urging the public to avoid the area to allow emergency teams to complete the recovery mission without disruption.
