PM Tarique Rahman Chairs First ECNEC Meeting, 5 Projects Worth BDT 483cr Approve

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday presided over the first meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) under the newly formed BNP government. 

The high-level session, held at the Cabinet Division conference room in the Bangladesh Secretariat, marked a significant step in the administration’s economic agenda for the 2025–26 fiscal year.

During this inaugural session, the committee approved five key development projects with an estimated total expenditure of BDT 483.43 crore. 

According to sources at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the funding structure for these initiatives includes BDT 390.84 crore from the national exchequer, while the remaining BDT 92.59 crore will be mobilized through external project loans and grants.

A major focus of the meeting was the adjustment and extension of several ongoing national priority projects. 

The General Social Infrastructure Development Project-2 (GSIDP-2), managed by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), received a substantial budget increase to BDT 1,450 crore, with a new completion deadline set for June 2027. 

Conversely, the Char Development and Settlement Project-4 (CDSP-4) saw a downward revision of its total cost to BDT 30.7186 crore.

The committee also emphasized digital and healthcare infrastructure. 

The budget for the IT Training and Incubation Center project was hiked by BDT 228.44 crore, bringing its total to BDT 533.54 crore with an extended timeline through June 2026. 

In the health sector, the modernization of Diagnostic Imaging Facilities across eight divisional medical college hospitals received a significant funding boost to BDT 1,213.70 crore, with work now scheduled to continue until June 2028. 

Additionally, the Gopalganj Dental College and Hospital project was granted a BDT 26.49 crore increase, finalizing its budget at BDT 139.30 crore.
