A 25-year-old Russian national, identified as Churkin Vladimir, passed away on Friday after falling ill while exercising within the residential area of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Ishwardi upazila.
Vladimir was an employee of Atomstroyexport, a subsidiary of Russia’s state-owned nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom, which is currently executing the power plant project.
According to police and project officials, Vladimir suddenly collapsed while working out inside the residential complex.
His colleagues immediately rushed him to the Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, where medical staff declared him dead upon arrival.
Asadur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge of Ishwardi Police Station, confirmed that the body was transported to Pabna Medical College Hospital on Saturday for an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.
Authorities are currently processing the necessary legal formalities to repatriate his remains to Russia following the medical examination.
