FM Arrives in Maldives on Official Visit to Elevate Bilateral Partnership

Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman arrived in Maldives on Saturday for an official diplomatic visit, marked as a "significant milestone" toward strengthening the enduring and friendly relationship between the two South Asian nations.  

Highlighting the importance of the trip, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives stated, “The visit sets the stage for enhanced cooperation in the years ahead.”  

Upon his arrival, Dr. Khalilur was welcomed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives Iruthisham Adam alongside high-ranking officials from the Maldivian foreign ministry.  

The Bangladeshi foreign minister is visiting the island country from July 25 to 27 as a "special guest" of the Maldivian government to participate in festivities celebrating the 61st anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Maldives.  

A senior official informed a local media that Dr. Khalilur reached Maldives via Doha following his journey from Manila, Philippines.  

During his official itinerary, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the President of the Republic of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and engage in formal discussions with Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam.  

The scheduled talks will focus on reinforcing the longstanding partnership between Bangladesh and Maldives, evaluating the expansive scope of bilateral cooperation, and identifying fresh avenues to broaden collaboration across shared strategic interests.  

Additionally, both foreign ministers will exchange views on pressing regional and global developments while reiterating their mutual commitment to continued collaboration in regional and multilateral forums.  

This trip represents Dr. Khalilur’s maiden official visit to Maldives since assuming his post as Bangladesh’s Minister of Foreign Affairs on February 17, 2026.
