Couple Killed in Pickup Accident in Capital, Daughter Critically Injured

A husband and wife were killed after being hit by a pickup van while crossing the road in the capital. Their daughter was injured in the accident.

The incident occurred around 7:00 am on Monday (February 17) opposite the Saddam Market in Matuail, Jatrabari.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Jabbar and his wife Runa Akter. Their daughter, Jui Akter (14), is critically injured and is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

It was learned that the victims were residents of Konapara in Demra, Dhaka. Their ancestral home is in Islampur Upazila of Jamalpur district.

Regarding the incident, Jatrabari Police Station's Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Mahmudul Hasan Irfan told the media, “While crossing the road this morning, a speeding pickup van hit them. Runa Akter died on the spot, and Abdul Jabbar later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.”

He added that the pickup van was seized after the accident, but the driver fled the scene. An investigation is underway.
