Chief Adviser's Meeting on Law and Order Situation

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus convened a high-level meeting on the law and order situation at the state guesthouse, Jamuna. During the meeting, he issued several crucial directives aimed at maintaining stability and security in the country.

The meeting, held on Monday afternoon (February 3), was attended by Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, the Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Khuda Bakhsh Chowdhury, and Home Secretary Nasimul Gani.

Professor Yunus expressed concerns that allies of the ousted autocratic ruler Sheikh Hasina are investing substantial sums to incite unrest and spread misinformation. He urged heightened vigilance against such propaganda and emphasized the need for collective efforts to counteract it.

He instructed the heads of law enforcement agencies to remain on constant alert against any attempts to disrupt public order. Stressing the significance of the current year for the nation, he underscored the necessity of preventing any form of anarchy.

Key Directives from the Meeting:

• Strengthening Law Enforcement Vigilance: The authorities must operate as though in a war-like situation, ensuring an unwavering focus on maintaining stability.
• Introducing a Police Emergency Number: A dedicated number (such as 999) should be established to allow complainants to file a First Information Report (FIR) from anywhere in the country.
• Implementing an Online Complaint System: To streamline the process, the police should launch an online platform for nationwide FIR filing, reducing the need for physical visits to police stations.
• Establishing a Police Call Center: A dedicated call center must be set up to assist those facing difficulties in filing complaints online.
• Modernizing Communication for Rapid Response: Law enforcement agencies should maximize the use of modern communication technology to ensure swift interventions in critical situations.
• Creating a Centralized Command Center: A headquarters should be established to coordinate efforts among all security agencies, police stations, and law enforcement authorities to enhance efficiency and response time.
• Crackdown on Extortionists: To stabilize the prices of essential commodities, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, security forces must take strict measures against extortion activities.

Professor Yunus concluded the meeting by reiterating that maintaining law and order is of paramount importance for the nation's stability. He urged all relevant agencies to work in close coordination and implement the proposed measures without delay.
