In an effort to maintain law and order in the country, Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, has urged people not to attack the properties of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other Awami League leaders.
In a statement issued by the Chief Adviser's Press Wing on Friday (February 7), this appeal was made.
The Chief Adviser stated in the statement that it must be ensured that there will be no further attacks on properties associated with Sheikh Hasina's family and the leaders and activists of the "fascist" Awami League.
Referring to the past attacks as an expression of public outrage, he said that people have long been subjected to oppression under the Hasina government. These incidents are a manifestation of their accumulated anger. The government understands their emotions.
He further mentioned that people are increasingly angered by Hasina’s attempts to obstruct the reform of Bangladesh while residing in India. It is due to such actions by Hasina that public resentment has grown, leading to these attacks and acts of vandalism.
Earlier on Thursday, in another statement, the Chief Adviser expressed deep concern that certain individuals and groups were attempting to vandalize and set fire to various institutions and establishments across the country. The government will firmly resist such activities.
He stated that the interim government is committed to ensuring the safety of citizens’ lives and property. If any attempts are made to destabilize the country through provocative actions, law enforcement agencies will take immediate and strict action against the responsible individuals and groups, bringing them to justice.
