India Partly to Blame for Ongoing Vandalism: Deputy Press Secretary

Saturday, 08 February 2025 , 10:17 AM

Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Azad Mojumdar, has stated that India also bears responsibility for the recent incidents of vandalism across the country, including at Dhanmondi 32.

He made this remark on Friday night (February 7) during an exchange meeting at the Chattogram Press Club.

Azad Mojumdar claimed that Sheikh Hasina, who is accused of genocide in Bangladesh and has an arrest warrant issued against her by the International Crimes Tribunal, is inciting unrest from India.

He further stated that after the arrest warrant was issued, Bangladesh sent a note verbale to India. However, India has yet to respond, and as a result, Sheikh Hasina’s statements from there are fueling disorder in the country.

Clarifying the government's stance on recent vandalism, the Deputy Press Secretary said that the government has issued multiple statements making its position clear.

He also mentioned that during the Chief Adviser’s recent visit to Davos, he held several meetings and invited more foreign investments, particularly focusing on Chattogram Port.

Emphasizing the government's efforts to combat misinformation, he stated that the government’s press wing is actively working against rumors and false information. He claimed that even globally renowned media outlets had spread misinformation about Bangladesh, but the press wing effectively countered it, leading those outlets to retract their inaccurate reports.

The exchange meeting was moderated by Mustafa Noim, a member of the interim committee of the Chattogram Press Club. Member Secretary Zahidur Rahman Kochi, Chattogram Metropolitan Journalists' Union General Secretary Saleh Noman, and former Senior Vice President of the Press Club Kazi Abul Monsur, among others, delivered goodwill speeches at the event.
