Relatives Still Waiting for Justice in Pilkhana Massacre: Dr Yunus

Even after so many years, the families of those who lost their lives in the Pilkhana massacre continue to wait for justice, said Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government.

In a message on Tuesday (February 25) marking National Martyr Soldiers' Day, he expressed his deep sorrow and solidarity with the victims' families.

"Today, February 25, we observe National Martyr Soldiers' Day for the first time. In remembrance of those who lost their lives in the brutal 2009 Pilkhana massacre, the interim government has officially designated this day to be observed annually."

"With profound grief, I honour our nation's brave martyrs, the fallen army officers, and pray for their eternal peace. My heartfelt sympathies go out to their bereaved families."

Dr Yunus emphasized that despite the passage of years, the families of the victims are still seeking justice. He acknowledged the confusion and challenges the nation has faced regarding the tragic event, stating that Bangladesh has a moral duty to ensure justice. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to this cause and expressed hope that the nation will stand in solidarity with the bereaved families.

"From now on, this day will serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by our courageous soldiers. Their tragic loss must inspire us to uphold justice, resist misrule and conspiracy, and ensure that no more lives are lost to arrogance or oppression. We must work toward a society where everyone can achieve their rightful place with dignity, human rights, and merit."

He further stated that Bangladesh must set an example in the global fight against hunger, poverty, and unemployment. On this day, in honour of the fallen soldiers, he urged the nation to commit to building a self-reliant and just society.

"On behalf of the nation, I once again extend my deepest respect to all our martyrs on this solemn occasion."
