Nahid Islam, the advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has resigned from the Advisory Council of the Interim Government.

He announced his resignation on Tuesday, February 25, after a meeting with the Chief Advisor at Jamuna in the afternoon.

Rumours about Nahid Islam's resignation had been circulating for several days. It appears his decision was driven by plans to lead a new political party.

The official announcement for the launch of the new party is scheduled for February 28, which likely prompted his resignation today.

The name of the new political party is yet to be revealed, but it will be led by Nahid Islam, with Akhtar Hossain serving as the general secretary.

It’s important to note that on August 5 of the previous year, the Hasina government was overthrown due to a mass uprising by students and the public.

Following this, an interim government was formed on August 8, under the leadership of Nobel Peace Prize-winning economist Dr Muhammad Yunus. Nahid Islam was appointed as an advisor to that government.
