EX-DU VC Arefin Siddique Laid to Eternal Rest

Former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU), A A M S Arefin Siddique, has been laid to eternal rest at Azimpur Cemetery in the capital.

His burial took place on Friday (March 14) at 3:55 pm.

Earlier in the day, his first funeral prayer (Janaza) was held at Green Road at 11:00 am. The second Janaza took place after Jumma prayers at Dhanmondi Eidgah Mosque, followed by a third Janaza at the same location.

On March 6, while speaking at Dhaka Club in Ramna, Arefin Siddique suddenly collapsed. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where tests confirmed that he had suffered a stroke and sustained a head injury.

After days of treatment, he passed away on Thursday night (March 13) at the age of 71.

His younger brother, Saifullah Siddique Tuhin, told the media that doctors confirmed his death was caused by a brain stroke and cerebral haemorrhage.

Professor A A M S Arefin Siddique was a distinguished academic and former chairman of Dhaka University's Department of Mass Communication and Journalism. In 2009, he was appointed as the 27th Vice-Chancellor of DU. After completing his tenure in 2017, he returned to teaching at the same department. He retired from university service in June 2020.
