High-Level Committee Formed to Investigate Ex-President Hamid's Airport Departure

An interim government has formed a high-level committee to investigate the recent foreign travel of former President Abdul Hamid. The committee is headed by Professor C R Abrar, the education advisor to the interim government.

The investigation committee was formed on Friday afternoon (May 11), according to a press release from the Chief Advisor's press wing. The members of the committee include Syeda Rizwana Hasan, advisor on environment, forests, and climate change, and Brigadier General (Ret.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain, advisor on the Ministry of Shipping and the Ministry of Labor and Employment.

The committee has been tasked with reviewing the following matters and submitting a report within the next 15 days:

a. How former President Abdul Hamid departed for a foreign country through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on May 7.

b. Whether there was any deviation or negligence in the duties of the concerned authorities in this matter.

c. Identifying who failed to perform their respective duties and recommending what measures can be taken in such cases.

The press release stated that to carry out these functions, the committee will be able to request all necessary documents, equipment, and evidence, and can interview relevant individuals. In this regard, all organizations will be obligated to comply with the instructions given by the committee and provide necessary assistance.

The committee can co-opt members if it wishes. The Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs will provide secretarial support to the committee.

It is to be noted that former President Abdul Hamid traveled abroad through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on May 7.
