Prime Minister to Hold First Office Day at Secretariat Today

Newly elected Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his cabinet members are scheduled to visit the National Martyr’s Memorial in Savar today to pay tribute to the heroes of the Liberation War.

This marks his first official working day at the Bangladesh Secretariat since taking office.

According to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister and his cabinet will lay wreaths at the memorial at 11:00 AM on Wednesday (February 18).

Following the tribute at Savar, the Prime Minister and his ministers will proceed to the gravesites of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia to offer floral wreaths and special prayers (Ziarat).

First Cabinet Meeting and Directives
On this inaugural day of governance, the Prime Minister is expected to have lunch at the Secretariat before chairing the first formal meeting of the new Cabinet in the afternoon. Following the meeting, he will hold an exchange of views with the Secretaries of all ministries and divisions.

An official from the Cabinet Division noted that during this first working day, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is likely to issue key policy directives to the Secretaries to streamline the new administration’s objectives.

Background
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured an absolute majority in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

The new government was officially formed on Tuesday following a swearing-in ceremony at the South Plaza of the National Parliament, where President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath of office to the Prime Minister and his cabinet.
