The government has appointed new full-time administrators to six major city corporations across the country, including both Dhaka North and South.
A notification was issued by the Local Government Division on Sunday, February 22, under the authority of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024. The order, signed by Joint Secretary Mahbuba Irene, takes effect immediately.
Newly Appointed Administrators
The following individuals have been appointed to lead the respective city corporations until further notice or until new corporations are formed:

| Gazipur (GCC) | Md. Showkat Hossain Sarkar |
Powers and Responsibilities
According to the notification, these administrators will exercise all powers and perform all duties typically held by the Mayor, as per Section 25A(3) of the amended ordinance. They will serve in a full-time capacity and receive allowances in accordance with government regulations.
This move aims to ensure the continued delivery of civic services and administrative stability in these key urban centers during the current transition period.
