Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has departed for Dinajpur this morning, Monday (March 16), to inaugurate a nationwide canal excavation program. This visit marks his first official district tour since assuming office as Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister departed from Dhaka Airport on an domestic flight at 9:30 AM, bound for Saidpur Airport. From there, he will travel by road to Balarampur in the Kaharole Upazila of Dinajpur to lead the primary event.
National Excavation Goals
The "Sahapara Canal Excavation" project in Dinajpur serves as the flagship for a massive simultaneous effort across 54 districts. The government’s broader plan includes:
Phase 1: Excavating 1,200 kilometers of rivers, canals, and water bodies over the next six months.
Long-term Goal: A total of 20,000 kilometers of water bodies to be restored across the country within the next five years.
Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister is scheduled to distribute livestock (goats) to underprivileged families and address a public rally in the area.
Afternoon Schedule: Graveyard Visit and Iftar
According to the official itinerary, the Prime Minister will visit the Faridpur graveyard in the Dinajpur sub-city area at 3:30 PM. There, he will offer prayers at the graves of his maternal grandparents and other close relatives.
Later, at 5:00 PM, he will attend a civic gathering at the Gore-e-Shahid Baro Maidan in Dinajpur city, which will be followed by an Iftar and Doa Mahfil (prayer session).
The Prime Minister is expected to return to Dhaka via Saidpur Airport later this evening.
