Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated that the government is working to establish a modern, simple, and effective service system to ensure proper recognition for the talents of innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, and creative individuals.

He shared these remarks in a post on his verified Facebook page on Saturday (April 25).

The Prime Minister noted that necessary steps—including online registration, rapid service delivery, strengthening legal protections, and taking action against counterfeit goods—have already been initiated.

He made these comments in a message marking World Intellectual Property Day, which will be observed tomorrow in Bangladesh along with the rest of the world.

"World Intellectual Property Day 2026 is being celebrated in Bangladesh just as it is globally. This is a crucial matter for the rapid progress of the country," the Prime Minister said. He highlighted this year's theme, "IP and Sports: Get Ready, Get Set, Innovate," calling it highly significant and timely for harnessing the intellectual potential of the nation's youth.

The Prime Minister expressed his firm belief that "IP protection" encourages new ideas, innovations, and creative endeavors. He added that it plays a vital role in sports technology, player training methods, sports branding, the broadcasting industry, digital content, and entrepreneurship.

"It is heartening that Bangladesh is today brimming with the power of youth," he said. "In this era of rapid development in IT, agriculture, industry, research, startups, and the creative economy, I believe IP protection is a primary prerequisite for national progress. The current government is fully aware of this."

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring international recognition and protection for Bangladesh’s traditional products. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to securing the status of indigenous products like Jamdani and Hilsa in the global market.

He noted that this year’s theme logically prioritizes sports, which is no longer just a field of entertainment but a promising profession, a social force, and an emerging economic sector.

The Prime Minister further mentioned that initiatives have been taken to ensure the financial security and dignified lives of national athletes through the introduction of allowances and "Sports Cards." Simultaneously, efforts are ongoing to scout new talent nationwide, expand modern training facilities, and develop a sports environment of international standards.

He concluded by expressing his belief that these initiatives will create new opportunities for sports-based industries, sports equipment manufacturing, branding, sports media, tourism, investment, and employment.
