Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called upon the police force to ensure the security of public life and property by utilizing the full extent of their capabilities and resources.
He made these remarks during the inaugural ceremony of Police Week 2026 on Sunday morning (May 10).
Addressing the gathered police officers and personnel, the Prime Minister said, "Everyone has enjoyed your colorful parade during this joyous occasion. To me, this was not just a parade, but an expression of the discipline, self-respect, sense of duty, and unwavering commitment of police members to march toward a brighter future."
Reflecting the People's Will
Highlighting the political transition, Tarique Rahman noted that following a series of anti-fascist movements over more than a decade and a bloody mass uprising by students and the public in 2024, the current government reflects the aspirations of freedom-loving, pro-democracy citizens.
"People who have been oppressed, victimized by countless lawsuits, and deprived of their rights for years now seek peace and security under this democratic government," the Prime Minister stated.
Professionalism at Home and Abroad
The head of government remarked that the 13th National Parliamentary Election proved the Bangladesh Police is capable of performing duties with high efficiency and professionalism. He also lauded their contributions beyond borders:
Global Reputation: Bangladesh Police has earned acclaim for its role in UN Peacekeeping missions, setting examples of bravery and humanitarianism.
Female Officers: The Prime Minister specifically highlighted the internationally praised role of female police officers in global peace missions.
A Call for Humanity: He emphasized that if such standards can be maintained abroad, humane behavior toward the domestic population is equally expected.
Concluding Remarks
The Prime Minister congratulated the members of the Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for their skillful performance in the parade. He noted that he would further address the force during the upcoming Kalyan Parade, which will be broadcast online to police personnel across the country.
Police Week 2026, themed "My Police, My Country, Bangladesh Above All," will continue until Wednesday, May 13.
