After a long wait for government officials and employees, intense discussions have begun regarding the announcement of a new national wage structure, or the 9th Pay Scale, in 2026. Since the first pay scale was issued in independent Bangladesh in 1973, a total of eight salary structures have been declared up until 2015.
While new scales are typically expected every five years, the process was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and global economic conditions. However, government activity surrounding the 9th Pay Scale has gained significant momentum in 2026.
Since the beginning of the year, there has been widespread curiosity among public servants. Currently, high-level government tiers are conducting a thorough analysis of the proposed structure. Secretariat sources reveal that a 10-member special committee is currently scrutinizing the recommendations.
