To ensure safe road transport management through the integration of modern information technology, the installation of Global Positioning System (GPS) devices will become mandatory for all public transport vehicles across the country from August 1.
The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) announced the directive in a recently issued public notice.
According to the BRTA, the Road Transport and Highways Division officially issued a gazette notification regarding this matter on June 11. The notification specifies that all public transport vehicles must be equipped with GPS devices, which must remain operational at all times.
Technical specifications and guidelines for the GPS integration can be obtained directly from local BRTA offices or accessed via the agency's official website at www.brta.gov.bd.
The notification further explicitly states that, in compliance with Section 25 of the Road Transport Act, 2018, and Rule 55 of the Road Transport Rules, 2022, vehicle registration and fitness certificate renewals will only be processed after ensuring successful GPS integration.
