Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, has left Dhaka for Tehran to attend the funeral of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The Speaker departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka for Iran at 7:30 AM on Thursday (July 2).
According to sources, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed is scheduled to return to the country on July 4 after attending the funeral service of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Ayatollah Khamenei was born on April 19, 1939, in Mashhad, northeastern Iran. He was killed in attacks launched by the United States and Israel on February 28 of this year at the age of 86.
Following the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, he played a crucial role in the transitioned governance system, briefly serving as the Defense Minister in 1980.
After the outbreak of the Iran-Iraq War, Ayatollah Khamenei served as the supervisor of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and was subsequently elected as the President of Iran. Following the demise of Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989, Iran's Assembly of Experts elected him as the Supreme Leader of the country.
