The government has announced plans to upgrade the Dhaka-Chattogram highway to a 10-lane thoroughfare, according to Minister of Housing and Public Works Zakaria Taher.

The Minister made the announcement while addressing a civic rally as the chief guest at the Cumilla Town Hall grounds on Saturday afternoon, July 4.

"The current government will upgrade the Dhaka-Chattogram highway to 10 lanes during its tenure," Minister Taher stated.

In addition to the highway expansion, the Minister highlighted a nationwide infrastructure initiative, revealing that the government has undertaken projects to construct a large-scale sports complex in each divisional city at a cost of ৳1,100 crore each. He noted that these proposed complexes will feature modern sporting facilities, including comprehensive training amenities similar to those at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP).

The rally also focused on various development plans for the district, including the reactivation of the Cumilla Airport.

During the event, Member of Parliament for the Cumilla-6 constituency, Bir Muktijoddha Monirul Haque Chowdhury, presented a comprehensive report on the overall development of Cumilla.

The rally was also addressed by local leaders, including Cumilla District Council Administrator Mostak Mia and Cumilla Development Authority Chairman Utbatul Bari Abu.
