Every Letter of July Charter Will Be Implemented: Home Minister

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has declared that every single letter of the July National Charter will be fully implemented.

He made this remark while addressing a reception and discussion meeting organized by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs for the families of July martyrs and July fighters, held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka on Wednesday (August 5).

"Every letter and spirit of the July National Charter will be realized," the Home Minister stated.

He emphasized that the aspirations of the July mass uprising can only be fulfilled through national unity and constitutional reform.

To implement the mandate of the people, political parties must work together toward constitutional amendments and institutional reforms, he added.

Salahuddin Ahmed asserted that the July uprising should not be claimed as the sole achievement of any single party or individual.

Rather, it is the collective achievement of the people of Bangladesh, forged through years of sacrifice, enforced disappearances, killings, political oppression, and democratic struggle.

"If we still ask whose July it is after liberating ourselves from dictatorship, then July will belong to no one," he remarked.

Calling upon all democratic forces to remain united, he stressed the importance of ensuring that fascism can never return to Bangladesh.

The minister noted that ongoing reform initiatives will ultimately institutionalize the ideals of the July uprising through constitutional amendments, establishing a democratic framework capable of preventing future autocracy.

Addressing the issue of enforced disappearances, he announced that the government is preparing legislation to prevent such crimes and ensure justice for victims, expressing hope that the proposed bill will be presented in parliament.

Regarding the Awami League, the Home Minister stated that, much like individuals, political parties can face trial for crimes against humanity.

However, he maintained that the decision regarding the future of any political party should rest with the judiciary rather than the executive branch.

Describing the July uprising as a pivotal national milestone in the country's history, the Home Minister urged all political forces to uphold its ideals through unity, democratic reforms, and the complete implementation of the July Charter.
