After four months in London, UK, for medical treatment, BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is returning to Bangladesh today. She is accompanied by her two daughters-in-law, Zubaida Rahman and Syeda Sharmila Rahman. The plane carrying Khaleda Zia is scheduled to land at Shahjalal International Airport at 10:00 AM.
Following a layover in Qatar, the aircraft departed from Doha Airport's runway at 6:05 AM Bangladesh time on Tuesday, May 6th, bound for Bangladesh.
Earlier, the air ambulance carrying Khaleda Zia departed from London's Heathrow Airport at 9:35 PM Bangladesh time. Her son, Tarique Rahman, and granddaughter, Zaima Rahman, were present at the airport to see her off.
BNP leaders and activists from various levels gathered on the roads of the VIP terminal area at Heathrow Airport to greet Khaleda Zia. They carried various posters and banners.
BNP leaders and activists have prepared to welcome Khaleda Zia along the entire route from the airport to Gulshan. However, considering the ongoing SSC examinations, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has requested that party members stay on the sidewalks and avoid crowding the roads. He made this appeal in a post on his verified Facebook ID on Monday, May 5th. He also requested law enforcement agencies to take measures to prevent anyone from obstructing the roads.
Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia traveled to London, UK, on January 8th for advanced medical treatment. Upon learning of her health issues, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, provided an air ambulance. She traveled to London on that aircraft and is now returning to Bangladesh from London in the same air ambulance provided by the Emir of Qatar.
