The Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal has expressed intense outrage over "offensive" comments regarding working women posted from the X (formerly Twitter) account of Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. In response, the organization has announced a protest program.
The protest and demonstration rally were announced late Saturday night (January 31) via a post on the verified Facebook page of Rakibul Islam Rakib, the Central President of Chhatra Dal.
In his post, Rakib wrote: "Extremely insulting and offensive comments were published from the X account of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, where working women were compared to 'modern prostitution.' To protest this extreme humiliation of women, Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal has decided to hold a protest and demonstration rally on Sunday (February 1) at 11:00 AM." The post specified Madhur Canteen at Dhaka University as the gathering location.
The controversy erupted after a post appeared on the Jamaat Ameer's X account that disparaged women and sparked widespread debate.
On Saturday night, amid the rising tensions, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman claimed that his account had been hacked.
In a new post on X, the Jamaat Ameer clarified: "I want to state clearly that my account was recently hacked, and fake content was published in my name. Necessary steps were taken as soon as the matter came to my attention."
