Following a landslide victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Elections, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to meet with Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, and Nahid Islam, Convener of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (National Citizen's Party).
The meetings are expected to take place today, Sunday (February 15), at their respective residences.
Reliable sources within the BNP confirmed the news on Saturday night, stating that the party has already coordinated with both leaders regarding the scheduled visits.
Election Results: A Decisive Mandate
According to the latest results of the 13th Parliamentary Election, the BNP and its allies have secured a massive majority in the 297 seats declared so far:
BNP (Single Party): 209 seats
Alliance Partners: 3 seats
Total Coalition Strength: 212 seats (with the potential to win 2 additional seats).
In a significant personal milestone, Tarique Rahman contested the parliamentary elections for the first time and won two seats, representing constituencies in Dhaka and Bogra.
Congratulations from the Chief Adviser
The Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, sent a congratulatory message to Tarique Rahman following the historic win.
"I extend my heartiest congratulations to you as the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, under your leadership, has achieved a massive majority. This clear mandate from the people in the historic process of democratic transition will remain a vital milestone for the country’s constitutional continuity and institutional stability," Dr. Yunus stated.
Historic Context
This victory mirrors the BNP's performance in the 2001 General Election, where the party, as part of the Four-Party Alliance, won 193 seats individually and a total of 216 seats with its allies. At that time, the late BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was sworn in as Prime Minister.
