Mirza Abbas, a member of the BNP Standing Committee and Political Advisor to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is scheduled to be flown to Singapore today for advanced medical care.
Mizanur Rahman Sohel, personal secretary to the senior leader, confirmed the news on Saturday. He stated that an air ambulance is set to transport Mirza Abbas to Singapore at 11:00 AM today, Sunday (March 15). He will be accompanied by his wife, Afroza Abbas, President of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, and their eldest son, Mirza Yasir Abbas.
Recent Medical Developments
The veteran politician underwent brain surgery last Friday (March 13) at Evercare Hospital in the capital, where he has since remained under close observation.
Dr. Rafiqul Islam, the BNP’s Health Affairs Secretary, provided an update on Saturday morning, noting that a follow-up CT scan of the brain showed positive results.
Health Crisis
The health emergency began on March 12, when Mirza Abbas suddenly lost consciousness while drinking water during Iftar. As his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to Evercare Hospital that night.
Following an initial CT scan that revealed concerning developments, a virtual medical board was convened, leading to the decision for immediate surgical intervention. He underwent two separate procedures on his brain this past Friday and was subsequently placed under a 72-hour intensive observation period.
High-Level Visits
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been personally monitoring the senior leader's health status. The Prime Minister visited Mirza Abbas at Evercare Hospital on Friday afternoon to check on his recovery firsthand.
