The ordinance issued by the interim government to ban the activities of the ousted Awami League has been officially passed as a bill in Parliament.
On Wednesday (April 8), the Anti-Terrorism Bill 2026, introduced by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, was passed by a majority "yes" vote in the National Parliament.
This legislation further amends and strengthens the existing Anti-Terrorism Act. Under these provisions, the ban on the activities of the Awami League remains in full effect.
Addressing the Parliament, the Home Minister stated that while anti-terrorism laws existed previously, the interim government issued a special ordinance in response to recent events and public sentiment.
He noted that the ordinance included provisions to ban organizations involved in genocide, under which the activities of the Awami League were prohibited.
The session of the 13th National Parliament resumed earlier at 11:00 AM, presided over by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram.
