The Awami League (AL) may participate in the upcoming general election, remarked M Touhid Hossain, former Foreign Affairs Advisor to the interim government. He made these comments during an interview with a private television channel.
Touhid Hossain noted that while a letter was sent to Delhi seeking the extradition of Sheikh Hasina, he knew it would yield no results.
When asked why no response had been received regarding the letter to return Sheikh Hasina, he said, "Did we expect a reply? I didn’t. I do not believe that the Awami League is completely out of politics or will remain so. Our people's memory is not very long. I believe they will return to politics, and my guess is they will contest the country's next election."
The former advisor also revealed, "I had decided to resign three times. However, they argued that it would create an embarrassing situation for the interim government."
Meanwhile, just three days before the election was held, the interim government signed a trade agreement with the United States.
Commenting on this, the former advisor stated, "The Foreign Minister or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was not involved in this in the slightest. The Ministry of Commerce and the National Security Advisor were the ones involved."
When asked whether a "deep state" was active during the July mass uprising, Touhid Hossain responded, "The deep state is involved in every single event across the globe. In every global event, the deep state is involved in one way or another."
