Sylhet was shaken by an earthquake at midnight. The tremor was felt in the Sylhet region at 2:55 AM on Wednesday (February 26). The earthquake had a magnitude of 5.3. However, no immediate reports of damage or casualties have been received.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was in Bhuragaon, Assam, India. The quake originated at a depth of 10 kilometers below the Earth's surface.

Although the epicenter was in India, the tremors were felt in neighboring Bangladesh, Myanmar, Bhutan, and China.

Since the earthquake struck late at night, many people did not notice it. However, several residents of Sylhet district and the Sylhet City Corporation area reported feeling the tremor and shared their experiences on Facebook. Reports suggest that the incident has caused panic among many people.

As the earthquake's epicenter was very close to Bangladesh's Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, as well as the Dawki Fault in Shillong, experts predict the possibility of multiple aftershocks within the next 24 hours. There is a particular concern that several minor tremors may occur tonight.
