Govt Officially Declares Bogura a City Corporation, Gazette Issued

The government has officially declared Bogura as a city corporation, fulfilling a long-standing demand of local residents and marking a major administrative upgrade for one of the key urban centres in the country’s northern region. 

The Local Government Division published a formal gazette notification on Thursday regarding this transition. 

According to the gazette, issued under subsection (3) of Section 3 of the Local Government (City Corporation) Act, 2009, the "new Bogura City Corporation has been formed by incorporating the existing Bogura Municipality along with several adjoining areas."

The notification, which was signed by Local Government Division Secretary Md Shahidul Hasan, also outlined the specific jurisdiction and ward structure of the newly established administrative body.

The Bogura City Corporation will initially comprise 21 wards. In addition to the current municipal area, a number of mouzas under Bogura Sadar and Shajahanpur upazilas have been brought under its new jurisdiction. 

The specific areas included in the expanded boundary are Phulbari, Nishindara, Katnarpara, Sutrapur, Chakbrindaban, Malgram, Thanthania, Garamara, Malotinagar, Latifpur, Phuldighi, and Betgari. 

This development is expected to pave the way for enhanced urban planning and infrastructure growth for the residents of the northern hub.
