A joint forces operation in Ramgarh, Khagrachhari, has led to the arrest of three individuals with firearms. Police confirmed that the arrestees are members of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF).
The incident took place on Saturday afternoon (May 16), during which one individual sustained gunshot wounds during an exchange of fire.
The arrestees have been identified as Sathoai Marma (35), Ronel Chakma (28), and Sarching Marma alias Raju (19). Among them, Sathoai Marma was injured in the shooting.
According to police, Ronel Chakma serves as a collector for the UPDF, while the other two are active members of the organization.
Police officials stated that based on secret information, a joint team of the Army and Ramgarh Police Station launched a drive in the Budongchhara area of Patachhara Union under Ramgarh Upazila at around 12:00 PM on Saturday.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcement personnel, the terrorists opened fire, prompting the joint forces to retaliate.
Although the militants initially dispersed, a subsequent sweep of the area led to the apprehension of the bullet-injured Sathoai Marma, alongside collector Ronel Chakma and Raju Marma.
Law enforcement recovered an AK-22 rifle, six rounds of live ammunition, a magazine, and other related gear from their possession.
Police added that the injured Sathoai Marma was initially rushed to the Ramgarh Upazila Health Complex and was later transferred to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
