Economic Advisor Dr Salehuddin Ahmed is set to present the national budget for the fiscal year 2025–26 this afternoon. The proposed budget amounts to BDT 7.90 trillion (790,000 crore taka), marking the 55th national budget in Bangladesh's history.
Key Focus: Transport and Communication
This year's Annual Development Programme (ADP) prioritises the transport and communication sector, which has received the highest allocation. Out of the total BDT 2.30 trillion ADP, the industry has been allocated approximately BDT 58,973 crore, despite a 16% decrease from the current fiscal year.
Top Three Sectors
Following transport and communication, the power and energy sector has received BDT 32,392 crore, a drop of over 20% from the previous year. The education sector stands third with an allocation of BDT 28,557 crore, reflecting an 8.4% reduction.

Budget Highlights
Compared to previous years, the 2025–26 ADP is the most cost-conscious in recent times, with a total allocation of BDT 35,000 crore less than the current year. The ADP was approved on May 18 in a National Economic Council meeting chaired by Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus.
The top five sectors account for 70% of the total ADP allocation, which will support the implementation of 1,143 development projects. Of the total development funds, BDT 144,000 crore is expected to be sourced from domestic revenues.
