In a landmark move to formalize the nation’s booming gig economy, Bangladesh will officially launch its first national digital platform for freelancer registration and ID card management, freelancers.gov.bd, on Tuesday.
Developed by the ICT Division and the Department of ICT, the platform has already undergone successful security verification through Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT).
This initiative marks the first time Bangladeshi freelancers will be eligible for a government-recognized digital identification card, a step designed to provide professional credibility both domestically and on the global stage.
The introduction of the Freelancer ID Card is expected to resolve long-standing hurdles for independent professionals by providing easier access to essential financial services, including banking, personal loans, and credit facilities.
Beyond financial inclusion, the card will act as a gateway to specialized government and private sector training programs and financial incentives.
By integrating freelancers into an institutional framework, the government aims to empower the youth, encourage self-employment, and further stabilize the flow of foreign currency earnings into the country.
Furthermore, the freelancers.gov.bd portal will function as a comprehensive national database, tracking real-time information on skill sets, work types, and evolving market trends.
This data will serve as a vital resource for policymakers to draft future strategies for technology-based employment.
By bridgeing the gap between the independent workforce and traditional institutions like banks and government agencies, this platform represents a strategic leap toward a more transparent, secure, and robust digital economy for Bangladesh.
