According to provisional estimates by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the country's per capita income has risen to $3,020 for the fiscal year 2025–26. This marks the first time in the nation's history that per capita income has crossed the $3,000 milestone.

Data released by the BBS on Wednesday (June 10) shows that per capita income reached 368,873 Bangladeshi Taka (BDT) in the outgoing fiscal year, representing an increase of BDT 34,362 compared to the previous fiscal year.

In the fiscal year 2024–25, the country's per capita income stood at BDT 334,511, equivalent to $2,769. Within a span of one year, per capita income in dollar terms has grown by $251. Alongside per capita income, the country has also recorded an improvement in economic growth.

According to BBS calculations, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth for the fiscal year 2025–26 reached 4.14%, up from the 3.49% recorded in the preceding fiscal year.

Meanwhile, the total size of the country's economy has scaled new heights in the current fiscal year. At current market prices, Bangladesh's GDP has reached BDT 6,120,209 crore, which is approximately equivalent to $501 billion.

In the previous fiscal year, the total size of the economy stood at BDT 5,515,026 crore, or roughly $456 billion.

Economists note that crossing the $3,000 threshold in per capita income and surpassing a $500 billion economy amidst global economic challenges represent significant milestones for the country.
