The Interim Government has granted approval for the establishment and commencement of academic activities for another private medical college in Bangladesh, starting from the 2025-26 academic year.

The authorization to launch the new medical college was issued by the Health Education and Family Welfare Division on Monday, November 10. A formal circular regarding the approval is expected to be released shortly.

New College Approved

The newly approved private medical college is the Barrister Rafiqul Haque Medical College located in Jatrabari, Dhaka. This institution is authorized to admit 50 students in the 2025-26 academic session.

Admission Halted at Two Colleges

Simultaneously, the Health Education and Family Welfare Division has decided to halt student admissions at two other private medical colleges.

These institutions will not be allowed to enroll students starting from the 2025-26 academic year, a decision expected to be formalized in an order to be issued today.

The colleges facing the admission ban are:

  • Manowara Sikder Medical College in Shariatpur.
  • Bhuiyan Medical College in Munshiganj.

The decision to stop admissions at these two colleges was made because they failed to meet the minimum facilities and educational environment standards required under the existing private medical college laws.
